During the Little Ice Age, the Literola crag, with an extension of 27.5 ha, was the 5th largest crag in the Perdiguer massif and the 2nd largest of the Pyrenean crags oriented strictly to the south together with the 13) Corones crag. It reached a maximum length of 670 m, although its width was even more remarkable, with 1,050 m it was the 12th widest gorge in the Serralada. Its total extinction was estimated in 1999.
It is considered to be the last Pyrenean glacier to lose its activity among the south-facing Pyrenean glaciers.
The combination of moraines from the Little Ice Age and more recent brief pulses make the old location of the extinct Literola glacier an ideal place to observe the different glaciological phenomena. During its return, the Ibones Blancs de Literola were discovered, which represent one of the most recent examples in the Pyrenees of the over-excavation of the glaciers of the Little Ice Age.
