30) Maupás Ouest

During the Little Ice Age, the current Helero de Maupás Oeste was part of a vast glacial complex that included the Crabioules Este and Crabioules Central glaciers. Covering an area of 88 hectares, they formed the second largest glacial complex in the Perdiguero massif and the sixth largest in the Pyrenees. The various tongues that formed its front reached a maximum length of 825 m.
In the mid-1980s, they all formed individual glacial systems of considerable size, but in constant regression. In 2017, Maupás Oeste was already classified as a glacier and divided into five units north of Agujas Navarro (3,043 m), Rabadá (3,045 m) and Tusse de Remuñé (3,041 m). The easternmost unit, closest to the summit of Maupás, retained a considerable thickness of ice, although its area did not exceed 0.5 ha. The second largest fragment covered an area of 0.2 ha, which disappeared in 2023.
In 2024, the Helero de Maupás Oeste occupied 0.4 ha of ice, concentrated in its easternmost part.
