36) Seil de la Baquo East

The Portillón Oô glacier (35) and the Seil de la Baquo Oeste glacier (37) formed a single glacier covering 139 hectares during the Little Ice Age, the largest in the Perdiguero Massif and the third largest in the Pyrenees. It was particularly notable for the 3 km width of its head, the second widest in the Pyrenees. The separation of the Seil de la Baquo and Portillón de Oô glaciers occurred in the 1930s.
The Seil de la Baquo Glacier occupied the steps between Lac du Portillon and the base of the Seil de la Baquo peak (3,103 m), in a favourable north-facing position. In 1986, several ice fields still occupied the most protected areas of the lower step, but these disappeared in less than a decade. In 2012, a subglacial cavity formed, allowing a glimpse of its interior. During the regression process, various isolated fragments remained in the form of ice formations, which were protected by the shadow of Pico Olivier or Portillón de Oô.
Its current area is 3.2 hectares, including the ice fields. The glacier system as a whole is considered the largest glacial system in the Perdiguero Massif.
