The Maniportet glacier still retains its glacial ice structure despite its small size. With a length of 770 metres and an area of 29.5 hectares, Maniportet was the third largest glacier in the Néouvielle Massif and was among the 25 largest in the Pyrenees during the Little Ice Age.
The glacier is located at an altitude of 2,900 metres, sheltered by the Pic des Trois Conseillers (3,039 metres), where the extent it occupied during the Little Ice Age can be guessed from the numerous erratic blocks deposited anarchically by the movement of the ice in the past, as well as its moraines.
At the beginning of the 20th century, it was still an active glacier, with a prominent rimaya. Its size and dynamics slowly decreased until it occupied the most remote and protected position in the sector in the form of a small glacier covering 0.2 hectares.
