The Punta Zarra glacier was located in the small cirque between Pico Gaurier and Punta Zarra. Its moraine from the Little Ice Age at an altitude of 2,700 m indicates its former status as a glacier. With a length of 300 m and an area of 4.2 ha, it was the smallest of the glaciers in the Infiernos Massif.
Classified as a helero in 1982-1985, it remained in good condition until the end of the 20th century, occupying an area very similar to that of the former glacier. From 2003 onwards, its deterioration accelerated. The year 2006 was particularly unfavourable, contributing to half of its surface being covered with debris.
In subsequent years, it continued to regress, maintaining its status as a glacier. In 2017, it was observed to be fragmented into three units, finally disappearing in 2022.
